History

The great UCC story begins in the eight year of the Showa era, it was 1933. Although coffee was introduced to Japan some three hundred years ago, it wasn’t until this year that a then unknown firm established by Tadao Ueshima set out to popularize its magical taste and aroma.

PhotoSoon, coffee became a standard in Japan and today is enjoyed by millions all across the land and overseas. UCC (Ueshima Coffee Company) has since expanded its role as a pioneer Total Coffee Company, encompassing every aspect of the coffee business. For UCC, coffee is not merely a product but a passion. Its quest for quality is constant in every phase – beginning with cultivation of premium beans in its own plantations in Kona Hawaii; Mandehling, Indonesia; and Blue Mountain, Jamaica; then onto processing of select harvest to roasted beans, canned ready-to-drink beverages, Super Aroma ground coffee, and other Coffee products and accessories.

Ongoing research at the UCC Research and Development Center explores all the aspects of coffee with state-of-the-art equipment and technology.

PhotoThe six-level UCC Coffee Museum in Kobe, Japan, houses all kinds of information about coffee from its history and production methods to significance in different cultures. It is aimed at promoting interest in and appreciation for coffee.

“UCC is for a happy relationship of people and coffee”. Aside from coffee’s therapeutic benefits, it is the beverage of choice in informal conversations, business meetings, and happy occasions. To cater to this social function, UCC has created a number of chic venues where guests can savor their favorite blends of coffee. These cafés around Asia showcase the finest coffee that is UCC.
